Why?

Why do we choose certain things and not others?

It is a question that it is not quite clear. I think every important decision we took is a result of several choices that carry us on a certain path and as time go by during our life we start to take more choices on our own, and each one more important than before. For example at the beginning of our life are our parents who take all the decisions and as we grow up we start taking little decisions like "What do I want to use today?" "What do I want to do in my break?" this way we continue maturing.

One thing that for me, in the beginning, was not a choice was to learn other languages. In the elementary school, in Mexico, at first grade, we started to learn English, since then and for all my entire life I realized that the English for me was difficult; in the third grade we started to learn French too, and I have to say that I liked it more than English. It continues the same way until I started to study in the National Preparatory School Antonio Caso. At that time of my life, I stopped learning French and did not continue learning English the same way, the level and the way English was teaching was different, and to be honest I just wanted to take a break of learning languages.

Then one of the "most" important decisions of my life arrived, to choose what I want to do for my entire life and of course, I decided to study something that I was not sure of want it but I was young and insecure, c'est la vie. And during all these years I realized the importance of learning languages and how lucky I was because my parents cared about my education. Now I decided to continue my learning of languages, English and French.

It's quite funny how your life can change, all the desires that you wanted once they will probably change and you can finish choosing something you never wanted in the beginning.

  1. I couldn't agree more. There's an elastic period of our lives between the times when we're told what to do (and what to choose) and that glorious freedom when we choose what we think is best for us. Mistakes and all, it's our lives and we're in charge now. That's maturity.

  2. I felt the same way as you Nadia! I really didn’t like studying English but then I realized that is neccesary to have this other form of communicating and to grow in a mental way. Nice words, I hope you to have the best success!

  3. Certainly that is a big question! We are influenced by our education sphere, the inputs are important at early ages but then we take our own decisions. So, here we are.

  4. Decisions are tricky things, when we take them we are under the influence of many factors: feelings, past experiences, peer and familiar pressure sometimes.
A decision can lead us to places we never imagined, good or bad but the good thing is you can keep making new decisions as we grow and change.
I'm glad you resumed your languages studies.

  5. Taking decisions by our own is probably the hardest part of growing up principally when those decisions will decide our future. Fortunately, we're humans and we have the chance to make mistakes because thanks to them we can learn more from life.
Congrats for your decision to continue learning languages and good luck!
